The Masons in America established their presense in the 1700's, and are the oldest and largest fraternal order in the world. Because it is a "secret society," many genealogists know very little about the organization, which has been compounded by the numerous conspiracy theories that have surface over the years and the development of anti-Masonry groups.
Depending on how far back your heritage in this country dates back, chances are somebody in your lineage was a member and the records of his affiliation may still exist. Many present day Masonic Lodges have web sites, while other groups have been publishing rosters. I'm launching this blog to identify online resources that might help in the search for Mason(s) in your family tree.
If you have some documents relating to the any of the fraternal organizations and would like to share them, please contact me and I'll give you instructions for sending me scanned images or photocopies. My company,
Genealogy Today LLC, also provides an archiving service if you would like to donate them to our collection.
